The Mummy Child (face)

Having lost her own child, and mad with grief, she took the tiny body to the Woman in the Bog. No-one knew her real name, but she was rumored to grant wishes... for a price. The mother got her wish; she would never lose her child again. The mother passed long ago, yet the child persists. Sometimes, it even moves... even now.

Part of a series of experimental relics and specimens made in the theme and name of ‘Thee Curiosity Shoppe.’

I did not sculpt this one, it is a heavily altered vinyl doll. This little darling began it's.. um.. "unlife" as a soggy abandoned baby doll in an alley. I scooped him(her?) up in the rain and brought him home. It was my intent to try making a 'reborn' style altered doll, or just to give this whole "altered doll" business a try, but I messed up. This guy clearly had other plans for how he would continue his existence. Long story short, a lot of work and experimentation later we have "Mummy's Boy." I hand dyed and tore all of the cotton strips that cover his little body, I altered every inch of exposed vinyl skin to the state you see it now. His pale, iris-less eyes shimmer with gloss, as does his beautiful little mouth. The whole effect is really quite spooky.
